At Wright Vision Center we use three different technologies for all-laser LASIK:
- Corneal mapping
- Flap creation with all-laser LASIK
- Corneal correction
Corneal Mapping
Corneal mapping is also called corneal topography. Because every eye is unique, this allows the doctor to identify the contour and shape of your cornea. Combined with Wavefront diagnostics, your doctor can create a detailed 3D diagram, or map, of your entire optical system – like a fingerprint of your vision. The more information the doctor has about your eyes, the more precise your vision correction can be.
Blade-Free or All-Laser LASIK
Wright Vision Center is proud to offer LASIK patients the very latest in all-laser LASIK technology in Rapid City: the VICTUS™ femtosecond laser platform. During this process, a laser replaces the vibrating hand-held microkeratome blade that is used to create the corneal flap in LASIK. This use of a laser instead of a vibrating blade is what is meant by ‘bladeless,’ ‘blade-free’ or ‘all-laser’ LASIK. The VICTUS system offers a faster, cleaner and more precise incision with improved safety and better vision outcomes. It’s also quicker and more comfortable for the patient. The new laser offers real-time, 3D imaging of the eye to plan, perform and monitor the most challenging steps of LASIK surgery. The system complements the surgeon’s skill with computer-guided accuracy.
Corneal Correction
The corneal correction step of LASIK is performed using the Wavelight® EX500 excimer laser. Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism can be effectively corrected with this laser. Benefits include:
- Faster procedure time
- Extremely fast eye tracking system
- Greater surgical control for the doctor
- Fewer side-effects
- Excellent vision results
